Hi, I’m Dr Alan Altham, Clinical Director and Principal Psychiatrist at Bluewater Health.
When I first started this clinic, the goal was simple — to make sure people in rural and remote areas could access specialist psychiatric care without needing to travel to Perth. It’s been a real privilege supporting so many people over the years, and I’m genuinely grateful for the trust placed in me.
The service has grown much faster than I ever expected, which is something I’m proud of — but it also means I need to make sure I don’t compromise on the quality of care I provide.
After a lot of thought, I’ve made the decision to close to new metropolitan referrals and to pause new rural and remote referrals for now. This gives me the space to continue delivering safe, thoughtful and consistent care to the people already under my care.
This won’t affect any current patients, and my hope is that this pause will only be temporary.
