I’m Dr Alan Altham, Clinical Director and Principal Psychiatrist at Bluewater Health.
When I first started the clinic, my goal was simple: to make sure people living in rural and remote areas could access specialist psychiatric care without having to travel to Perth.
It has been a real privilege to walk alongside so many people on their journeys, and I’ve been humbled by the trust placed in me. The service has grown far more than I ever expected, and while that’s a positive thing, it also makes it harder to give the level of attention and care that I believe every patient deserves.
After thinking carefully, I’ve made the decision that for now I will only be accepting new referrals from rural and remote areas. This helps me stay true to the reason Bluewater Health was created in the first place — to make sure those who would otherwise miss out on care can still get it.
This won’t affect the care of my current patients, and I hope this change will only need to be temporary. If you’re a psychiatrist who shares this vision and would like to be part of the team, I’d love to hear from you.
Thank you for your understanding and ongoing support as we continue to focus on providing the best possible care for rural and remote communities.
